Termite Control – 4 Ways to Tell if Your Exterminator is a Good One

If you’ve got termites, you have a big problem.  Termites cause billions of dollars of damage every year.  If you don’t get rid of yours quickly, you could wind up with a giant, expensive mess on your hands.  So, if your exterminator up to the challenge of termite control?

Termite control is a little bit different than general pest control.  That’s because termites operate a little differently than the average pest.  Typically, pest control isn’t as invasive as termite control.

So, how do you know if your exterminator is qualified to rid your house of termites?

Ask him these 4 questions:

1.Does he have experience with termite control?

Just because someone knows how to spray for ants or cockroaches doesn’t mean that he’s trained in the art of termite control.  Before you let any exterminator into your home, find out what kind of termite experience he has.  Remember, when it comes to termites, you don’t have time to waste!

2.Does he focus his termite control efforts at the source?

This may be the single most important question you ask!  You may see termites around your baseboards or cabinets.  However, the few termites you see only represent a very small portion of your termite problem.  There could be hundreds – or even thousands – more of them lurking in the deepest reaches of your home.  Termites set up their colonies in deep, dark, tiny spaces – and the only way to truly get rid of them is to figure out where they’re hiding and attack it.

If your exterminator only kills the termites he can see, you will never get rid of your problem.  

3.Will he search for other issues during the process?

It’s not uncommon for termite procedures to uncover other pest control problems.  Since termite control is so thorough, your exterminator may very well discover a collection of ants or a colony of bed bugs.  But if you’re dealing with a true pest control professional, this won’t be an issue.  Your exterminator will simply take care of pest problems as he finds them.

4.Does he have a preventative process?

Part of termite control is finding a way to keep termites from coming back.  Once you’ve gotten rid of all your termites, you certainly don’t want new ones to pop up!  A good exterminator will come up with a preventative plan so that you won’t have to worry about spotting more termites or termite damage a few months down the road.
